Project Six - Final

  1. Hi Hannah, I really enjoyed your photos. It looks like you are telling the story of perhaps your grandmother with limited eyesight / blindness and the various ways she spends her time through the day. Overall, I think the shots you captured illustrate her sight challenges and ability to overcome them. (my interpretation)
In your first shot I think the framing could have captured more of the subject and less of the dog. It almost puts more focus on the dog. Perhaps taking the shot at a greater distance to fully frame your grandmother would have been helpful. What’s great however is the lighting. You’ve made great use of lighting to darken out the edges which draws the eyes to the center.
In contrast to the first shot, the second provides an almost inverse silhouette. I think it is creative to capture the bright light from the window as part of the background. You’ve done a nice job balancing the natural and artificial indoor light. The window frame creates some interesting lines which draw the eye to subject. The only negative to the photo are the objects in the top of the frame blocking part of the shot.
The third photo continues the story of challenges performing everyday tasks. The photo would be enhanced if the cup wasn’t so prominent in the background. Perhaps adjusting your perspective and depth of field to focus on the subject and subtly highlight the TV in the background would have been nice. The cup minimizes the emphasis on the subject looking closely at the remote.
I don’t think the fourth photo works well in the sequence. Perhaps a shot of a different activity could have worked better here. The framing of the brightly lit, colorful TV photos distracts from the intended subject.
Like the first photo, I think framing could be improved by zooming less or increasing your distance from the subject. I think adjusting the depth of field would have blurred out the background to place more emphasis on the subjects.
I really like the sixth photo. It captures the joy of talking to someone and not relying on her sight. You’ve done a nice job capturing the emotion on this one.
    Great job on this.
